At the beginning of March, Dead Earnest worked with Wakefield Metropolitan District Council to question to what extent we are able, in work situations, to tackle domestic abuse. The scenario was based around a small office in which the behaviour of one member of staff had prompted her work colleagues to be concerned as to her welfare. However, to what extent did their anxious whispering help or hinder the situation? And, in any case, what could they do when the woman in question steadfastly refused to admit she had a problem?

Forum Theatre on the Radio PDF Print E-mail
We are currently working on a project to deliver a forum theatre radio piece on the radio.  The project is designed to facilitate discussion and consultation around proposed regeneration activity in the Parson Cross area of Sheffield.  The project will be a development of our previous work on radio and will be appearing on BBC Radio Sheffield sometime in late April. Whereas tradition Forum Theatre is fairly dependent on the participation of the audience as spect-actors in the piece, Dead Earnest's approach uses much more dicussion and character hot-seating.  This subtle difference in technique means that the style of Forum Theatre that we practice is ideally suited for delivery to larger and geographically diffuse audiences via local, regional or even national radio.  In this pilot project we hope to combine the forum theatre script with a live phone-in, using the narrative to spark debate and discussion.
