Creative Sparks is a Dead Earnest initiative to look at how young people interact with Public Space. The idea behind it is to use creative games and exercises to make us look again at public space, to celebrate and reclaim that space for all the communities of Sheffield and to engage young people in the process of imaging and designing the public space of the future. Dead Earnest has always sought accessible locations for performances and creative events, performing extensively in found spaces, ofices, pubs, cellars and outdoors. Artistic Director, Ashley Barnes, teaches on a Performing Arts degree at Sheffield Hallam University that gets students to question performances space and to locate and utilise site specific locations. Recently Dead Earnest has also been weaving stories about people's sense of place to contribute to the design of public housing in the north of the city (Housing Market Renewal). For more information about our other activities see main site or contact us. The first Creative Sparks event will take place in Sheffield City Centre July / Augsut 2008.
