Equality and Diversity

Equality and Diversity training is always a difficult subject to deal with. The name itself conjures desperate cries of “PC Gone Mad” as people resent having views forced upon them. Research has shown that people are not at all against the need for equality and diversity; in fact they are very much in favour of it.

The fear and disdain comes from hearing crazy stories in the tabloids and from not fully understanding what the term means.

The most important thing about the equality and diversity training we offer at Dead Earnest is our ability to help people understand what the terms mean, how they can be approached and, most importantly, to help people embrace, rather than fear it. We want to help people think about equality and diversity in practical terms, not tabloid terms.

For us, the subject of equality and diversity is about challenging people’s pre-conceptions of other; it is about helping people understand the needs of others and realising that, actually, different people have different needs and require different approaches. We live in an amazing world and part of what makes it amazing is its diversity.

Our workshops, performances and training schemes based around equality and diversity are designed to be imaginative and thought provoking. They highlight the presumptions so many of us make, they tackle the difficult subject of neutrality and they help people understand, accept and embrace the diverse world in which we live.
