Words & Actions are a group of highly experienced disabled actors that use forum theatre techniques to deliver training about issues to do with disability and in particular what it is like to have a learning difficulty. Set up by Dead Earnest, in 2002, they regularly deliver training to undergraduate students in the fields of nursing and social work and were the hit of the Skills for Care conference held in Nottingham in September 2006.

Dead Earnest were nominated in the category 'Board Member of the Year'

"Dead Earnest use a variety of techniques to help people recognise, challenge and change unhelpful behaviour, and to rehearse new ways of thinking and doing."

In learning environments Dead Earnest apply creative practice to inspire teachers and students to take risks, to use their creativity to imagine new possibilities, and to have the confidence to think in new ways and try new things. We believe that the arts have a valuable store of knowledge and techniques to unlock the potential of all learners. We do not visit schools, perform, and leave. With the rate of change in the world often strecthing our undertanding we believe we all need to apply our imagination and creativity to find our place in the world, and make sense of the challenges we face. We use drama and other creative techniques to create safe areas to play, invent and learn. We use arts experiences as incubators to allow individuals to find their feet, grow and succeed. We seek to have an impact on the way that schools and other learning and teaching organisations value creativity and imagination. We are advocates for how theatre and drama can allow people to rehearse the kind of lives they want to live, and allow them to practice the skills they will need to make them a reality.
