How to use this site:  Thank you for visiting our site.  If you are thinking of employing and working with Dead Earnest then please feel free to call us or contact us using the form on the site, or email.  This site is regularly updated, and should give you an idea of our main areas of work and interest.  We have tried to make the site as easy to navigate as possible and to add as much content as we feel is useful.  However the best way to find out about our work is still to get in contact.

Our three main areas of work are still Health and Wellbeing, Community Cohesion and Equality & Diversity and Creative Learning. Using the navigation buttons towards the top of the page you can get a quick introduction to each of these areas of work.   Each of these areas will also feature case studies which demonstrate our work in each of these fields.

We have added a Media Player which will give you access to the audio and video recordings which feature our work.

The News section features the most upto date news articles and essays and papers the team have produced.

Founded in 1993 we began life bringing new and established work to unconventional and accessible performance spaces, then went on to produce and tour our own work in theatre venues across the country and continue to use drama and theatre techniques to engage in debates, raise questions and rehearse answers.

We are now a Company of skilled writers, directors, workshop leaders and facilitators that uses experience and expertise to create work which focusses on human behaviour and interaction. We still often use performance, workshops and roleplay, but no longer rely on conventional theatre audiences coming to see our work.We create our own projects and work with partners and clients to create work that is engaging and accessible, often produced for a specific audience or "community of interest" and always with a strong sense of audience consultation and engagement and input.

We create work that is accessible to a wide range of people and can be taken to them, often in the form of a bespoke performance, tailored precisely to the concerns of the audience and delivered in their community or environment.

Dead Earnest Theatre - our story so far:

Dead Earnest was founded by our Artistic Director, Ashley Barnes, in 1993. Touring ProductionsWe began as a theatre company which performed in pubs and site specific locations. We gradually developed to produce touring productions in local theatres, and then to write and perform the company's own work, regionally and nationally.

In parallel with this artistic progression the company played an active role in community arts projects. An ambition of all of work, throughout this history, has been to have a positive impact on people's lives. We now rarely tour work, but produce upwards of 30 new productions each year designed to have a positive imact on the lives of those who see them.

Health and Wellbeing:

The role that the arts can play in health care provision is coming to be increasingly valued. Much of our work is focussed on using the arts, and specifically theatre in the professional development of doctors and health care professionals. We use drama to imagine better ways of doing things, and to rehearse strategies for coping with the challenges that ill health presents.

Community Cohesion:

Dead Earnest are interested in how people can learn to cope with the changing environment and changing and evolving cultures. We believe that people have a responsibility to change and adapt to the world around them, and that by being able to adapt we are all more capable of living happier lives.

Creative Learning:

As a learning organisation we know the value and importance of training and learning. We also know the value and intrinsic place of imagination and creativity in learning. We use this knowledge and our passion for creatvity and learning to create and support creative learning envirnoments.
